Finally, Christmas has been put away in the crawl space for another year. I can't beleive how much stuff I had to decorate with. This is all that was left after it was taken down. My kids commented that they think it looks like we are moving. My oldest gives me a hard time about having to much decor. So, I told her that I wasn't going to put it all back and I was going to leave it bare like this just for her. She just laughed at me and decided I should redecorate and that she would like it better that way. Problem is, it takes alot of time to put it all back together and it is going to have to get done in bits and pieces. I just love having a clean canvas to start over with.
Our family has been using plastic dishes and and an old ceramic set I got 13 years ago for our wedding.
I have had others here and there, but with kids they get broken and mismatched. We asked our parents for new dishes for Christmas. I finally broke them out of their boxes this morning to wash them up. I was super impressed with the colors. How beautiful they are and I love the shape of the plates. I have a cup of hot chocolate every night and the mug size is perfect for that. I am so happy to be able to have had the opportunity to have less and to do without. Otherwise, I would never be able too appreciate such beautiful dishes.
Take care......I hope you all have a wonderful Monday. For family night tonight we are all going roller skating. Now, that's an amusing time. I may need a heat pack and some Tylenol tomorrow.
Steph, I just wanted to pop in and say "Hi" to a fellow Idahoan (I'm a new one, but that still counts, right?). I live up in the Panhandle and an truly enjoying Idaho...it's such a friendly and beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteLove your new dishes...who made them and what's the pattern name? (I'm a dish freak, guess you can tell).
Hugs,
Pam
Steph, I'm always so happy when I get the Christmas stuff put away. Love your dishes! Have fun roller skating!! I loved roller skating so much when I was a kid. I'm sure it will be a great time!

Hi Steph,
ReplyDeletefunny how the kids make comments like that. I remember my son making a statement about our tree I had up once he graduated and moved on. He came home to a much smaller one that first year and had a fit! "Mom, just cause it's only you and dad at home doesn't mean you should change things!" He's been on his own for 12 years and still makes comments about the smaller tree!
Your new dishes are very nice btw.
Have fun roller skating. Haven't done that in years.
Blessings,
Sheila
Steph, I love your new dishes. Be careful roller skating. I am 43 yrs. old and you wouldn't find me on skates. You are very brave!
ReplyDeleteHave fun.

It is always nice to have that clean slate after the holidays. My bay window was bare for a week and my kids were all asking what was wrong..lol ( I was waiting for a new runner I ordered for it.) Now it is all primmed up again and everyone is happy I guess. Have fun skating!

Hi Steph, Clean slate, an opportunity to start fresh with a new year of decorating. Love your new dishes, have fun decorating and roller skating, haven't done that in many a year. Vicky
ReplyDeleteYour new dishes are pretty. You will enjoy them. I waited many years for a pretty matching set I got last summer. Funny how simple joys in life can make our heart sing. Have fun decorating your clean canvas. It will be exciting to see it all come together. Blessings!

Steph, Your new dishes are very pretty and look like they will go with just about anything. Your oldest sounds like my oldest - she doesn't subscribe to my decorating style. ~Ann
ReplyDeleteYou impress me...I can barely walk on my two feet much less put something under them and try to stay upright!! My big boys say the same thing your daughter does..I have too much stuff. When I packed my stuff up..I seemed to need to extra bins. How did I get it all to fit when I took it out. Ohhhh...yea....there's that little addiction called Etsy, lol!! Katie
ReplyDeleteBoy, that is a clean slate! It's fun to start fresh though isn't it? But like you said... a little at a time. That's funny that your daughter said that because mine was the exact same way! She complained about all my "old, rusty, dirty stuff" (lol) being all over the house but when I had put most of it up, so got to missing it, haha! Silly girls!
ReplyDeleteYou received some pretty dishes! I'm the same way though. I don't ever replace something until it absolutely wears out. We just always make do with what we have. I guess that goes to show that you and I do have primitive in our blood, hehe!
I hope you had fun skating! We don't have skating in our family nights, although I'm sure that would be a hoot, lol!
Hope you all have a fantastic week~
Hi, Steph - I like your new stoneware. I hope you didn't fall down skating. What fun to take the family to, my daughter's school used to do a roller skating night on Fridays.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the clean slate look after Christmas !! Your's looks so ripe for the pickin'....lol
ReplyDeleteYour new dishes are beautiful !! Don't forget to warn the folks in the house, if they break it they buy it...new dishes that is ...lol
Robin

ReplyDeleteLove those dishes!!!

Wowsers...when you said "clean slate," you meant CLEAN slate! I can't remember when I was last able to see that much of my living room. (And, doubt I will ever again, since, if I got it that sparse, I'd have to do battle with the other two who live here to put stuff back in!) Have fun with that canvas!! I like your new dishes - a great neutral that will serve you well for a long time - and that you won't tire of. (When will I learn that lesson???) ;o) Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
