I often visit Mary at Gettysburg Homestead. When I saw the tutorial for her faux Redware, I thought it looked like a lot of fun. I have always enjoyed painting with acrylics ever since I was a child. My mother always had bunches on hand. It's been along time since I have free handed pictures on to something though. This project was more fun than the others because I baked a bunch of the circles for my girls and we all sat around the kitchen table Friday night and painted together. It was crazy:) All chairs at the table filled, paint flying everywhere (including all over the girls), and everyone seemed to need help brushing, squeezing, rinsing, painting, and drawing. It's a wonder I even got mine done. But, here they are. Black Ware, Yellow Ware, Redware, and Terracotta Ware.
Here's what the girls did. I let them pick their own colors. I expected pink and purple and yellow flowers and rainbows, etc. But they surprised me with beautiful browns and oranges with designs much like their mamma's. So sweet!!! Oldest has the top row~Middle has the middle row~ and baby has the last.
This marathon has been a wonderful journey for me. I really needed to take the time to connect with myself this way. Sometimes a full time mother can lose herself to others (which is really the way it's suppose to be), but we need to take time for ourselves once in a while.
After 4 days of intensive crafting, my house needs the attention now. You know what? I don't mind doing it this time.
Thanks so much for watching me run and for cheering me on. It's been fun to have you along my side this whole time and leaving me such sweet comments.
You are the best friends a blogger could have.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

ReplyDeleteSteph,
ReplyDeleteI am so happy for you to have taken the time to "run your marathon" as you put it! You are so right in the way mothers lose themselves in the needs of others, always putting ourselves last and yes I agree that is the way it should be, but we need to take time to be rejuvenated however we deem necessary.
Love how all your wonderful creations turned out and I thank you for sharing them with us.
hugz and blessings,
Sheila

Whoooaa!!! And she made an amazing dash across the finish line!! These are absolutely amazing Steph!!! Your designs (and painting skills) are awesome! And I can see the girls have inherited your creative genes....Love that little fish.... I so agree that full time moms need to take time for themselves - otherwise, they lose themselves along the way and aren't the best they can be for their children. You're wise to recognize that - and respect that. Now have fun cleaning the house so you can display all your new prim pretties!! Have a great week ahead! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
ReplyDeleteSteph, they turned out great!! Love the ones the little ones made too--make sure you date them.I'm sure they will be cherished little treasures in the future!!--Jan
ReplyDeleteIt was crazy? I can imagine!
ReplyDeleteI notice the girls used the same colours and patterns. I think they tried to imitate you :-).
You did a great job Steph! You're so right about getting in touch with yourself. For two weeks I'm doing nothing but cleaning, working in the vegetable garden, grocery shopping, taking care of everything while hubby was in France for a few days, ... I didn't craft, didn't post on my blog and don't have any inspiration for a post. Do you think I need a marathon ;-)?
hugs
Goedele
