Out with the old~In with the new

~Out with the Old~
It makes me wonder, what downtown looked like back in the day.  Fresh new buildings, booming businesses, people bustling around the railway.  A town full of hope and promises.  3 or 4 square blocks is all they began with.  The faded signs are all that's left of someone's hopes for a better life.  It's what's left of their dreams of having their own piece of the business world.  A paper company, a hardware store, a car lot, a produce company, a grainery, a seed store, or a welding business.
Vacant and left to be torn down.  In the last year I have seen three of these beautiful lots grounded and whisked away to make room for.........

~In with the New~
Can you believe this?  A blue eyesore of a car lot.  It's so convenient you know.  You can sell your car, buy a new one and get a tattoo and belly button ring all in the same afternoon.  I believe that most of the residents of my town cheered the day this went in.

I am pretty sure I was born in the wrong era.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and Memorial Day.
Take Care:)

Ugh! You're right - it's an eyesore!
Those were beautiful buildings that were torn down and that's supposed to be progress and improving the environment.
Hope you have a great weekend regardless!

Oh no Steph that is so sad! I have to say except for the new condos on the riverfront my downtown has been very well preserved. Almost all of the buildings are very old, maybe I will share some pictures sometime on my bog...just call me a borrower! LOL I work at the Pharmacy and it is in a building that is over 100 years old. The side outside wall has a Squirt advertisement painted on it, I love it!

Have a great weekend sweetie!
Be blessed!

You're so right! Ugly new buildings. I don't know about you, or the people in your town, but I don't need a tattoo on the same day I sell my car ;-).

Hi Steph! How sad--and how very unattractive!! My little hometown (15 minutes away ) is an old victorian town with beautiful gingerbread on the buildings and houses--very pretty. Dad ran a barber shop in town (county seat ) directly in front of the courthouse that was preserved to look exactly like it started out MANY years before!! There was a huge store beside his barber shop that had 15 foot high pressed tin ceilings and they sold thread out of original huge spool cabinets. The floors were solid oak--original-and everything was rung up with the original brass cash registers. It was an education every time we went shopping!! Unfortunately, the entire block burned down one year leaving a gaping hole. It has since built back up, in a victorian fashion, but the flavor isn't the same. Still, the town cherishes it's victorian roots and celebrates it with a victorian ball, and home tours. The courthouse was just renovated and is stunning. Thanks for your sweet comments on Carmen's blog!!--hugs, Jan

OMG... what a shame and what a waste. Those old buildings were beautiful. Couldn't they have been restored and used as businesses? I feel your pain :o)

Wow - love and appreciate your posting the these pics - sad because they are a reminder of what WAS and what I think should still BE, giving jobs to the folks in the community. Wrong era for me as well. Thanks for sharing your photos.

I, too, was born in the wrong time I guess. But it makes me wonder if folks of the "day" thought those old buildings were ugly when they went up? I doubt it, but it still makes me wonder. I can't help driving anywhere without wondering what did this look like "back when." Sigh.... Thanks for sharing your beauty - and your pain. Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
