Every year since we have been married, with the exception of maybe 1, we have made a trip to the forest and cut down the best tree DH could find the day after Thanksgiving.  This year he was on call and we had to make other plans.  We found a very cute tree farm in the next town over just 45 minutes away.  Now, I am all for the forest and hiking in the cold snow while towing three crying girls.  I love spending the day wondering if hubby is going to get us lost or stuck. (Sensing sarcasm here?)  It's a tradition.  However, the tree farm was lovely.  We drove right up to the edge of the field, put on our hats, and piled out of the truck.  We got to walk on the level groomed dirt and check each angle of the tree.  The girls got to run around unattended.  The sun was warm and lovely.  It only took a half an hour of inspecting perfectly groomed beautiful trees to find what we were looking for.  And, after all, DH still got to roll around in the dirt and saw something down.  It was the best excursion yet.  And next year, we will be doing it again:)  No more forest expeditions (unless it's in the summer and we are hiking).

This little tree was wanted for the kitty.

Oldest is taller than this one.

Now for the fun part.

Innocent bystanders.

All loaded up.

Ready to decorate.

See the tail "Middle" is sporting?  She wore it all day long.  Ha ha, so cute.

The girls decorated it all by themselves.  We did have to help with the high places and move a few things around, but other than that, they did a good job.  All the ornaments are thiers or are special from one place or another.  I call it my "junk" tree, but really, it's just a "family" tree.  One day, when the kids move on, it will be a glorious fancy one like you see in the magazines:)

Hi sweet Steph~ I think I will never think of you any other way except for "Sweet Steph". The tree is beautiful and I am glad you found a "nicer" tradition this year. I think the kids did a great job decorating and really that is what it is all about. Love that this post is just about a day in your life, love reading about those too!

To me this is the very essence of family at Christmas! It's a beautiful tree and your girls did a fab job of decorating it!
Thanks for sharing - oh and I laughed to see the 'tail' on 'Middle' as my 8 y.o. had a My Little Pony tail in pink and loved doing the same thing!!
Best wishes

What beautiful tree........especially all the memories that you have going to get it and the special ornaments hanging on it! I've always said when my kids moved on that I would have that special tree like in the magazines, but once I start to decorate the tree I somehow can't leave all those memories in the box and continue to hang those special ornaments year after year!

Hi Steph

Last year, right after Thanksgiving, I visited my family in Chicago. I decorated the tree with my cousins (still children :-)). And I noticed they had different ornaments, also special from one place or another. Interesting, because we don't have that. We just go to the store and buy ornaments that match. Fancy, but not a lot of memories attached to it of course.

I wish I could decorate my tree too, but we always wait until after Dec 6 (St. Nicholas). Well, I have to be honest. I'm always first in our street, because I can't wait. You'll see lights and a tree around here around Dec 1 ;-)

Great tree!! It would take up our entire living room though!! Ahhhh - what a wonderful tradition for your family - and what beautiful memories you're creating. We've never done a family tree outing - don't really know why, but it is kind of sad now that I think about it....

But, the thing I loved best about this post??? Middle's tail of course!! ;o) Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
