Hall Chair~Blue Jars~Bad Kitty

My intent was to get to the antique store this weekend to look at some crocks.  We did get to look, but I didn't see much there.  They had sold the one's I was previous looking at.  Bummer;(  I was so excited that my husband was enjoying himself.  It's fun to see him liking and agreeing with this whole primitive thing.  We didn't get a crock but he found this neat hall chair.  I think the hooks are ugly so I am going to the hardware store to buy some different ones.  I love the stripes in the wood and the designs on the bottom front.  The seat lifts up to a huge box underneath and I am going to store my seasonal things for the front entry way in there.  That's where the chair is.  Right in the front entry way.  We'll see what visitors think of that:)  Anyway, I want to redo some things in the entrance for spring so I will show you the whole ensemble later.

I've seen many people coloring their glass lately so I decided to try my own.  It was a very fast project and that is the kind I like!!  I was however, disappointed that the examples I have been looking at came out clear and mine turned out opaque. I think it's because I used white glue.  I wonder if I had used decoupage if they would have been transparent.  I tried brushing it on to the outside of one bottle and then the inside of another.  I like it with the color on the outside best.  The color is very pretty though, especially next to the brown grungy candles.
1tsp. glue
1.5 tsp. water
1-2 drops blue coloring
Mix it all and brush a very light coat evenly onto jars.  Avoid pooling the glue.  As the jar dries, the brush lines will disappear.

I finally got my wall box put up in the upstairs family room.  I had to rearrange some things in order to make it all look right.  I think I will pick up some silk flowers today at the store to put in the box.

Look where I found Kitty the other day.  I think that is so funny:)
We let her out yesterday (she is still an indoor cat).  As I followed her around the yard, she got spooked and took off like a bullet and skitted up our neighbors fence and into their backyard.  Oh, man.  She has done this once before.  I went to our neighbors to see if I could get in their yard to get her.  They peeked through the blinds, but no one home could speak English so they never answered the door.  We had to break into their back yard through their side gate which was jimmy rigged and guarded with wood and things.  She got a time out when she got home:{

I hope everyone has a good Monday.  I have to say it is one of the busiest days of the week for me.  I get to clean up the "Monday Mess"  which is left over from the weekend.  Then I get to go to the grocery store and stock up for the week.  Thanks for the visit:)

Hi Steph, Sorry you didn't find THE crock. It just means the one meant for you hasn't shown up yet!! Love your jars--they sorta look frosty to me--very pretty!! You know, you could always spray paint the hooks on your hall chair--maybe a flat black? Our Stryker did the same thing when I threw the flat box from a roasting pan down. Al said he'd get stuck, but he suddenly did a flip inside the box to turn around. Too funny!! Have a great day!!--Jan

I love how your jars turned out! I am going to have to try that too :) Sorry you didn't get a crock, not fun but at least you found a neat seat :) I agree with Jan, you could spray paint the hooks a flat black, I think that would look very nice! I love it when kitty's play and hide in boxes, glad to hear you got yours back safely :D

Have a wonderful day,

Trish

Too bad you lost the crock, just happened to me this week. Where I live, antique shops dealers do Lay Aways, but as the economy is hard I put a piece at a time, this week I had to pay one, and therefore had another crock in the sights but when I went there it was gone. So I understand, ask your area if they do Lay Aways, one of the dealers told me that in the past they were not doing but the market has changed and to keep the sales they are doing. Maybe so you're lucky with the next piece.

Hi, Steph:
How clever you are to paint the jars with such simple ingredients. Right now I only have blue jars so I'll have to hunt for clear ones. I'm curious to try this.

I get so frustrated when the cat(s) get outside by accident. Sometimes they are on the other side of the door and shoot past when the door opens. Most of the time they run back in because they don't like it outside (so why do they try?).They are indoor kitties but I guess they are still longing the outdoors.

Hugs,
Susan

Sorry you didn't find the crock of your dreams! But I have to say if I were a visitor entering your home I'd gasped and say, 'What a great chair!' And then I'd admire the blue glass and gasp, 'You painted those yourself? Wow!'
How could anyone be too cross with such a pretty kitty!
Have fun with the chores!

Glad you caught your kitty. She sure is cute. good luck on your next crock hunt. Everyone I know collects the cobalt. I love the old grey or brown "working" crocks. People used everyday.

Love your new hall chair Steph, it looks beautiful! Could you 'rust' the hooks that are on there so they look older? And your jars are great, I'll have to try your technique! LOL on your kitty, glad you got her home safe and sound! Thanks so much for entering my giveaway and posting it on your sidebar, good luck to you! Deb

Oh oh, kitty kat run! Too bad about the neighbors. My daughter had some like that once. They stared, but did not speak.

Great find on the chair, Steph....I love finding pieces that provide storage...when you have such a small space as I do, every nook and cranny counts. I like your jars - gee, I must be missing something because I haven't seen this done before. And Kitty, Kitty, Kitty....big shame on you! ;o) I don't let mine go outside....I've had too many bad experience with previous kitties I did - so no more. Happy Wednesday! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin (See what I mean - I can't resist "completely" catching up!:))

That is a neat hall chair and anything with storage is just an added bonus! =]

I've seen a lot of that glass coloring but haven't tried it. I also like that blue color next to the brown grubby candles. Great job!

Your cat is too funny! I would have been so mad about having to chase her next door, haha.

Have a fantastic weekend~
