Patriotic Kitty's and a Riddle

I have a stack of Country Sampler next to my bed that I flip through and read at night.  It doesn't matter how many times I look at the same one, I can always find something different.  This past week I was looking at a July issue from 2008 and found this cute little kitty.  I fell in love and knew I had to make one for myself. Of course, each of the girls had to have one too:)  So I got to work making Patriotic Kitty's.

This one I made is exactly like the kitty I saw in the magazine.  I coffee stained the muslin first, then cut it out and painted it with acrylics.  After the paint was dry I stuffed it, rubbed cinnamon in, and attached the whiskers and tag.

And here is our house kitty.  The girls thought she needed a wig.  Poor cat is mauled all day long now that the kids are home for the summer.

Riddle: What do you get when you cross a very scared baby koala bear hanging on for dear life and a baby bobcat screaming?
Answer: "Baby" at swimming lessons.
This picture was snapped in the first 2 minutes of lessons on the first day.  She had no idea what was about to happen.  Under the water she went and the smile was gone and the screaming for dear life began.  For two lessons straight she has been riding piggy back on her teacher and screaming at the top of her lungs for the whole lesson.  They still put her under regardless.  It's sad for momma to see but she needs to learn.  We are out on the water a lot during the summer with our boat and my girls need to learn to swim.

"Oldest" is working on her stroke.

"Middle" is waiting her turn to swim across the deep end.

I just love "goggle" pictures.  They are so funny:)

Tomorrow we get to take a mini vacation to Utah.  We are going to Lagoon (an amusment park).  The girls have never been to a park with rides before (just the carnival) so we will see how it all goes.  They may be afraid of the roller coasters and bigger rides. We are staying in a hotel one night and with my brother and his wife another.  I am super excited to spend time with two of my brothers and my parents.

We also get to go to Hogal Zoo.  They just got a polar bear and it will be so much fun to see all the other neat animals:)

I hope you all are having a good summer.  Thanks for visiting my little blog.  I really appreciate everyone's comments.
Take care.

Good morning Steph, Love all your kitties. Great job. Wow, sounds like a wonderful trip is ahead of you. Enjoy the park, zoo, and time with your family. My grandaughter Darbee Rae is on her second week of swim lessons. She still HATES to go under water. She cried the first week but is doing better this week. Her teacher won't let her wear goggles. I think it would help her if she would. Great pictures of the girls. Have a good day.

Good Morning Steph, love the kitties

LOL on the swimming lessons, my kiddo's learned to swim when they were really small, my mother almost had a heart attack when she seen my daughter jump off the bow of the boat at only a year and half old.
They have all three always been water kids!

What a fun looking park, hope the girls have a blast, and a zoo trip too!!
Enjoy your visit with family

Hi Step! I too love Country Sampler and I've looked through them so many times the magazines are beginning to show wear. They kitties are so cute, you did a wonderful job. The patriotic kitty is just darling and so is real kitty who looks like a green haired Rapunzul. It's good you have them in swim lessons, mine really need to learn soon. Your girls are sure to love the amusement park and the zoo and be sure to snap lots of photos. Have fun on your trip!

It's so nice that you were able to take something you saw in a magazine and create it yourself! They look awesome!
Those goggle pictures are cute. Once Noah is older I'm going to have him take swimming lessons too. It's a good thing to know.
Have fun on your trip!

Hi Steph! Love your kitties--the fabric ones AND the glamorous one! :) Your vacation sounds like a lot of fun! I used to take my boys on the wildest rides--hmmmm...wonder why they get a glazed look even now when they see a park? Screaming Baby reminds me of when we put our pool in--Brian couldn't swim-he would SCREAM if anyone came near him so we ignored him and within a couple days he had worked his way down the safety of the ladder and finally jumped in! He was swimming across the pool within 3 days! After that he was a fish--always in the pool. Have a great vacation--Jan

Steph, where do you find the time to make so many adorable kitties? I can't get anything done during the day when the children are here.
The wig is absolutely 'fabulous'. What a movie star!
Have fun in Utah.

I love coming to your blog, it always brings a smile to my face and I leave feeling better, thank you for that. I love the kitties you made, so talented. The pool pictures were great, I am sure it is hard for you but pretty soon she will be loving the water. I grew up in a river town so we all took lessons, in the river even!
Your mini vacation sounds great! I pray you have a wonderful love filled time! Can't wait to hear about it when you get back! Safe travels my friend!
Be blessed,
Cindi

Ah, those are cute lil kitties. I've been told that I was taught to swim by being thrown in the creek when I was around five years old. We were raised on the river.
Oh boy, vacationing at an amusement park. Have a blast and take care :)

Steph, Loved the swimming lesson pictures! Again, you've made me miss those times - but I really like it now that I do not have to get in if I don't want to. Those lessons pay off.

I do the same thing with CS - and yest I know what you mean about seeing something different every time.

Your cat and ours will need to commiserate together! The mauling doesn't stop, our kids are 17, 14 & 11 and maul the cats all day long. The 14 year old is the worst one! He loves the cats and just can't leave them be. Animals are just drawn to him too, I don't know what it is about him. We ask him how he's ever going to get married when he has 6 cats in his bed - where is his wife going to sleep? He says she can sleep on the couch. What are the chances of me ever having a daughter-in-law? ~Ann

Hope, by now, you are having the time of your life. Sounds like a wonderful vacation. They can be exhausting and stressful with little ones, but one day you will look back and truly miss those precious times. Your kitties are absolutely precious!! (The real one with green hair too!!!) Glad the girls are learning the water ways - but, alas, I feel for Baby....I was forced to take swimming in gym at school (no choice) and was in "beginners" for all three years. Never did learn how to swim....Think it goes back to living on a river front for my first three years of life....all I remember of those years is my mom saying "don't go near the water!" :o Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

Cute kitties, girl love them! I love looking back through old issues of Country Sampler and A Primitive Place. It's so funny how I can see something I didn't notice before, lol.

My youngest 2 were the same way about water but now they love it. Funny, my oldest never had a problem with it though. But yes, I agree. I think all kids need to learn to swim.
