Why My Blog Has This Name

I have been having so much fun reading every one's stories about their blog name that I have decided I will take my turn in Karen's little challenge.  So, come sit down.  I'll tell you all about it.  I apologize for the length. It's nearly impossible for me to tell a story without writing a novel.  You can stare at my pumpkin cookies too.  Which are, by the way, sooooo yummy.

We moved to this valley 5 years ago and I had a whole new house to decorate.  I had never heard of primitive anything before.  While discovering our new town, I found a small shop on the corner of Addison and Locust.  I stopped in and had my first sweet taste of primitive.  Of course I fell in love instantly, but had no idea how to incorporate all this new stuff into my home.  After ordering Country Sampler I started to get an idea.  Then the shop closed as fast as I discovered it and my prim possibilities went with it.  As the years went by, the magazines became stacked up on the table next to my bed.  Many nights  I would flip through them and dream.
Life went on and another baby came.  I have always felt my self worth attached to a tag that said "someone who has to be successful and noticed for it".  As a stay at home mom, no one notices you and your success isn't measured much by world standards.  I needed to prove to myself that I could do something that I felt was hard.  It was something I had to do for myself.  I got the crazy idea to start a blog and see if I could make something out of it.
Long story short, I decided on a primitive blog with the hopes of discovering new information and sharing it with others on home decor and styles.  (Ha ha ha.  Little did I know that there was a whole brooding community filled with so many talented and wonderful ladies that, who would instead, share their talents and knowledge and friendship with me.)  I threw myself at others with fury and set out to meet people.  I had no idea the amazing friendships that could develop through blogging.  It was quite a wonderful accident that I stumbled upon all of you:) It has really made a difference in my life.
Now, as you probably have guessed, the name of the shop that was my first inspiration and that gave my eyes their first feast of prim was called
"Front Porch Primitives".

Love your story! I love how you came up with your name from where your first prim inspiration came from. If I did that then my blog would be titled "Aunt Debbie" lol not as catchy :)

Hello Prim neighbor................
love your story Steph! I haven't had much time to join the challenge but have had fun reading what others have written.
One of these days girl we are going to meet up! We aren't all that far away from one another you know ;-)
hope you have enjoyed your little break and the girls are doing well too.
No "fair" this year for us. We usually only go for one day and walk around, view the exhibits, take in the free shows and have our favorite treats. Hubby wanted to go today but something else came up. It's all good!
Take care.
hugs~

YES! Thank you for this post....I get what you have written about being a stay at home mom. I had always worked but then when the children came it was most important for me to stay home. I'm not going to lie, I miss working, I miss socializing with other adults but then another mom told me about Etsy and I sort of found a purpose, a structure for myself and a small income. Most of all, self worth and self esteem....if that makes sense. I'm so glad you are blogging, you're one of my favorites to follow and read!

This is a great post Steph. I recognize a lot of it! It's nice to have met you through our blogs.

Hmmm pumpkin cookies. It might be a good idea to make them for my kids (= giving them vegetables in disguise :-))

Great post Girlfriend....I still am amazed that you are so "new" to this whole prim thing. Seems, though, like you have taken to it like a kitten to warm milk. For me, I think I was born with a prim, old, soul....even as a child I reached for what was old and from another time....My birthday gifts were a ride in a horse-drawn sleigh my father kept in the haybarn and only took out when I begged him to.

So glad you have joined the ranks....and gladder still our paths crossed. Keep blogging.... ;o) Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

Hi Steph,
Sorry I haven't been here before! I'm falling down on following up with my CHALLENGE girls. So sorry.
What a sweet story Steph...it's funny how when lots of us got into blogging or even the forums we didn't really know what or maybe even appreciate Primitives...but look at us now! Glad you joined in.

Well I for one am extremely glad you took that leap and joined the prim blog community. I don't come by as often as I would like because of 3 kids that keep me busy. But I often think of you and your 3 beautiful daughters wondering what you are up to, what new things you all are discovering and mostly what wonderful handmade prims you are making. Blessed to call you not only my prim blog friend, but also my friend and sister in Christ! Love ya girl!! =]

Oh, and I enjoyed reading how you came up with your name. I really thought it was just from your own porch. Neat idea!
